10 useful tips for your sales team

by Vikram  on   09 Sep 2010

I strongly feel that selling is an art and one that is refined over time. Regardless of the product/concept/service being sold, there are certain key factors which I feel form the foundation for a successful sales drive.

1. Develop a 30 second elevator pitch, that sticks to the 30 second limit
The elevator pitch is meant to captivate an individual to such an extent that he/she is anxious to learn more about your product. It should serve as your opening statement and project a creative, yet factual representation of what your product stands for. That said, content from your sales collateral/brochures should not find their way to the elevator pitch.

For example, a web based application is supposed to run on the cloud, so making references to this in a 30 second pitch just doesn’t add any value. Rather, think about the positive emotions that the use of your product generates, regardless of what your product may be. Does it inspire creativity in those who design with it? Or does using your product deliver a smile on every end user’s face? Bring out these intangible benefits in your elevator pitch and connect with your prospective customers on a more personal level.

2. Know who your customer is before selling to them
A common trait displayed by Sales teams these days is to start selling a product/concept to a prospective customer without really delving into how it would benefit the end user. Your product may have a wide variety of amazing features that potentially serve every conceivable need but often, customers have a single pain point, which one of your standard, run of the mill features may address.

Learn more about your customer, their company and how they operate. Once you’re armed with all the details, paint a picture in their minds that makes it easier for them to relate to how your product fits their needs. You just might find that in responding to how their pain point can be solved by merely highlighting a single feature that your product offers, you’ve bagged the sale.

Rails Developer, Chennai

by Shalin  on   09 Apr 2010

Are you turned on by great ideas and beautiful code? If yes, we want you. Here at Tenmiles, we are driven purely by the excitement of building our own products and making them simply awesome for our customers. And beautiful code is the next obvious step to getting there. We have rolled out 3 Rails products so far and are best known for DoAttend. We are hiring experienced developers, freshers with some personal programming experience (any language) and interns.

What are we looking for?

You must be a daring programmer who can get things done. You should be able to pick up new approaches and learn new techniques quickly.

You must be self-driven and self-motivated. We want to see you come up with ideas for products and features, want to hear you talk about them passionately and want to be convinced that they’re simply rad!

You must have a startup mindset – taking responsibility for the product, and working as a team to do what it takes and make it a success.

Experienced Developers: You must be exceptionally good in programming and have a very good domain knowledge in Rails. Experience no bar. Show us some code or links to projects you have completed.

Freshers & Interns: Hunger to code, excellent aptitude and logical skills. Experience in Rails/Ruby not required but exposure to some programming language with personal programming experience would be required.

What do you get to do?

You will officially be in charge of development and upkeep of one of our Rails products.

You will also be a part of the Rails team as a whole and will be contributing to its evolution – building the domain knowledge in the company, establishing best practices, coming up with more product ideas and delivering Rails apps to customers. We still function like a startup and so your involvement will help form the culture and practices in areas that you work on. We encourage you to take responsibility and initiative and get things done. Oh, and of course, you’ll be working on a Mac :)

Now if you read the above and feel more adrenalin pumping through your body, it most likely means that you think you’re perfect for this role. And that most likely means that WE will think you’re perfect for the role.

How can you apply?

Email us your resume to jobs@tenmiles.com. Please send your resumes in PDF format only. Do not send cover letters, instead, please list your experience (professional or personal) with Rails, JavaScript and HTML+CSS. Link projects that show your experience. The more great code you show us, faster the interview process and the easier it will be to floor us.

Got questions? Leave us a comment or get in touch with us by email or twitter.

The Year of Ten

by Vikram  on   25 Mar 2010

2010 marks the tenth year since Tenmiles’ inception (sounds like a tongue twister doesn’t it?) and it’s gotten off to a pretty good start.

The latest entrant to the Tenmiles Vanity Shelfdoattend, is beginning to capture the hearts and interests of Event Managers across the world.

DoAttend, an online event registration service that allows users to create, publish & promote an event on a personalized event page is now powering events ranging from social tweetups and weekend BBQs to corporate conferences on software programming and mobile application development. Diverse events with a common link; a simple to use, aesthetic and feature rich web based product that does the job.

In fact, doattend now enjoys the privilege of being the fastest growing product at Tenmiles.

Moving onto the other major tenant in the Vanity Shelf, we have Helpdesk Pilot, our web based help desk management/customer support solution which continues to aid businesses globally. Shalin Jain was in UK recently to meet with our valued customers in the region and it is gratifying to know how we’ve been able to contribute in increasing their overall efficiency levels. More region specific visits are in the pipeline but armed with feedback, both positive and constructive, we now have brighter plans for Helpdesk Pilot and will be revealing them shortly.

What’s been happening on your side? Do leave a comment and let us know.
